WANG SHU + LU WENYU. MORE LIVES THAN A CAT.
09 June 2020
This session of the Mies é Máis cycle takes place like the previous one in online mode, and we dedicate it to the couple of Chinese architects Wang Shu and Lu Wenyu. The idea of their architecture, and the essence of the projects they design in their Amateur Architecture Studio, is based on the reuse of construction materials from demolitions, and recovering traditional forms of construction from a modern conception of space.
We divide the didactics into two proposals that help us understand the importance of materials in his works. On the one hand, making samples as printed footprints of objects, understanding the technique of concrete with bamboo formwork present in most of its buildings. And on the other, putting into practice the traditional constructive technique called Wapan that the architects used in the project of the Ningbo History Museum, designing a facade reusing materials and placing them as a collage reflecting the stories hidden in the objects that are used. This gives a facade full of memory, expressive, authentic and personal materiality.
