LADY ALLEN: THE ADVENTURE OF CHILDHOOD
25-26 November 2017
Continuing with the cycle Mies é + of the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporáneo, one of the sessions was dedicated to the English architect Marjory Allen, better known as Lady Allen of Hurtwood.
This architect and landscape architect lived through the two world wars of the 20th century, which influenced her to dedicate her work to improving children’s childhood and paying special attention to designing inclusive spaces.
The session began by making our own designs of ideal playground design. Just after that we tried to make different games without any dexterity like sight or one of the hands, which was really complicated even though a priori it seemed very simple.
We continue to build a great building together, this time without being able to get off the ground. Later on we invented our own games around it, putting into value the appropriation of space through creativity in the game.
Finally, we took up again our initial designs and made a reflection on what things are essential and what things are unnecessary for a playground while attending to the pure Lady Allen style, inclusion for all children.
